My Computers for Programming
Programming has become something I do regularly now.
Without Ben pushing me to do programming I would have given up on doing it.
For me it took about 3 years of constant programming to get used to doing it.
What I use to program with:
I have 2 computers right now.
One is a old system with the following specifications:
- AMD Ryzen 5 1600X CPU
- 48GB RAM
- GTX 970 4GB GPU
- 2TB NVME Boot, 512GB NVME Data, 4TB Normal Storage
- Windows 10 Pro
This system hasn’t been cleaned in like 4-5 years. It has all my old settings, data and password connection settings. I am afraid of losing something if I reformat it. Importantly, it has the accounts for FTP for me to upload stuff.
This is what I use to test natively Windows 10 programs.
My secondary system is:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
- 32GB RAM
- GTX 1650 Super 4GB GPU
- 240GB SSD and 1TB SSD in Dual 2.5” Front Hotwap Bay
- Windows 11 Pro
I have this system to try to do modern stuff as it has a proper CPU for Windows 11. I have normal SSDs 2.5” for swapping drives for backup and deploying latest software to fresh clones of Windows 11.
I have this problem where I feel I am not using the latest software to do the work so I use clean clones on separate cheap SSDs and install stuff to them to avoid doing in-place updates.
I am itching for a newer CPU like a Ryzen 7 5700X but I find it won’t really be worth it. I find my secondary system fast enough with 6 cores and 12 threads.
