NOTE: THE LATEST VERSION (Sept/24/2020) OF THIS GAME FROM XBOX GAME PASS FOR PC DOES NOT WORK WITH OUR PROGRAM NO MORE. SO IT MAY WORK WITH OLDER VERSIONS. The latest release of the game does not allow end-users to edit the “UserCfg.opt” configuration file.

With this FREE software, you can easily change these settings (see images above) in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (FS2020). Good for system below or at minimum requirements!

We at FreeTimeTech like gaming and would like to squeeze out more performance from our hardware. This simulator requirements are high. When we set the settings to lowest, it still does not perform well enough on our old system. We watched LowSpecGamer’s video on YouTube to help us design our program to change graphic settings further.
Even with LowSpecGamer’s tweaks to the configuration file “UserCfg.opt”, the game reverts them. Our program fixes that and allows you to change these recommended settings according to LowSpecGamer.
INSTRUCTIONS and VIDEO
Close the game then run this program. Change manually the settings you want and click the “Change” button and then “Save” to write the changes to the config file. There are also presets in the “Options” menu: Low and Lowest. Lowest is from LowSpecGamer recommendations. Low preset is the in-game setting.
Close this tool and run the game. PLEASE READ NOTES on bottom of this page for more info about this program!

Tested on game purchased from Microsoft Game Pass subscription in Canada.
Our program searches for the config file “UserCfg.opt”, changes the read-only attributes to open and write to the file with the settings you choose from the program. Then it changes the read-only attribute back to on.
Since the config file is now read-only from using our program, use our program to further change it or manually remove the read-only attribute and then edit the file. The “UserCfg.opy” file maybe found in the following path:
C:\Users\[YOUR ACCOUNT]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
[YOUR ACCOUNT] = Your Windows account name with the installation of this game
