Planned Obsolescence

I always wanted cool professional headphones. I finally got one in 2013. It is the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. I believe I got this for $99 Canadian back then.

This headphone is extremely durable and the audio is tuned linearly which is good enough for me.

Over the past 7 years, I have not had an issue with it.

Just today, I found out that Sennheiser sold off its consumer products division. I saw a Linus Tech Tips video talking about this.

Sifting through the YouTube comments, I saw this:

You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain, Seinnheiser decided to die hero.

Sennheiser could not make enough profit doing what they did. They made quality very long lasting professional audio products …

The company that bought their consumer division is Sonova. They are a world leader in medical grade hearing aid systems. I don’t think this acquisition will compromise the brand.

How will they turn a profit when Sennheisser couldn’t?

I like my pair of headphones. I hope to get another one after but i don’t see mine breaking down anytime soon. I would have to buy something different.
